COLOMBO : Disturbed over its member becoming a new minister of the ruling party, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, SLMC, said that it would take disciplinary action against the new Environment Minister Naseer Ahamed.
Ahamed is one of the four dissidents who broke the congress regulations and supported the ruling party in the constitutional amendments in the parliament.
SLMC Leader and former minister Rauf Hakeem described the taking over of the ministry as a disgraceful act that deserves punitive action against Ahamed.
He said in a statement made available to Colombo Times that the SLMC’s high command is to meet on Friday, April 22 and suitable action will be taken against the minister who broke the rules and regulations of the SLMC.
Ahmed is already under a disciplinary inquiry over a previously alleged disobedience.
