COLOMBO ; Cabinet approval has been granted to implement a housing programme for overseas employees.
Cabinet Spokesman, Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said on Tuesday ,Feb 13 that thr Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) in collaboration with the National Housing Development Authority and the licenced banks has planned to implement a housing programme for overseas employees.
He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department.
Accordingly it is expected to grant a maximum of Rs.10 million as a concessionary loan and contribute a portion of its loan interest amount by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.
The loan amount obtained under the proposed loan scheme, should be paid in foreign exchange remitted through legitimate channels within the period the loan receiver is engaged in an overseas employment and payments would be made in Sri Lankan rupees once the foreign employment is completed and the worker returns to the country.
