Shiranthi Rajapaksa shifted to General Ward at Welikada Prison

COLOMBO; The Department of Prisons states that Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who was remanded in custody, has been transferred to a ward for general female inmates at the Welikada Prison.

Prisons Spokesman Senaka Pallethanne stated that she was transferred to a general ward this morning after being referred to the National Eye Hospital.

He mentioned that until this morning, Shiranthi Rajapaksa had been housed in a ward designated for female patients.

Doctors at the Eye Hospital examined her this morning, and the Prisons Spokesman added that medication was prescribed to her.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa was also produced before a prison doctor yesterday, where several samples, including blood samples, were collected for medical tests.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa was arrested on the 7th by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on charges of misappropriating Rs. 10 million obtained from a state bank, committing offenses under the Corruption and Offences Against Public Property Act.
