Cololmbo : Two Nigerian CONMEN have been arrested in Dehiwala area in connection with an online financial scam.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thanduwa said that the suspects have been remanded till 24th of September on a court order
. He also requested public to be vigilant about these online scams and not fall prey to them
Police say that the suspects have been apprehended following a complaint received to the Police cyber crimes division.
These suspects have reportedly sent WhatsApp messages to a female saying that she has won a prize. They have later requested the woman to deposit a large amount of money in order to claim the prize.
Nigerian scam has been common in several countries including those among the people in the Middle East. Prospective customers are allured by attractive and expensive gifts for some mock contests for which the winners have to pay a sizable sum to claim their prizes
