COLOMBO : Prominent person in the Muslim community, Marshard Bari has been appointed chairman of the Sri Lanka Wakf Board.
New members of the 27th Waqf Board were officially handed their letters of appointment by Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs, Muneer Mulaffer, at a ceremony held on Tuesday April 28 at the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs.
The event marked the formal appointment of the board’s new leadership, including Chairman M. Marshad Bari and six other members. The Waqf Board serves as the apex body responsible for regulating mosques and managing charitable funds within Sri Lanka’s Muslim community.
The newly appointed members are: M. Marshad Bari (Chairman), Ash-Shaikh M.S.M. Ihsan (Rashadi), M.Y.A. Rifaq Ahmed, A.M.J.M. Jawfer, Advocate Zainul Masoodin, M.A.M. Arooz and M.I. Aminuddin
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister Mulaffer emphasized the board’s responsibility to strengthen administrative systems within Muslim religious institutions and to enhance public service delivery. He expressed confidence that the new chairman and members would work diligently to resolve issues related to mosque administration in a fair and lawful manner.
The ceremony was attended by several government officials, including the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, M.S.M. Nawaz.
