.In response to a plea from A.M.M. Muzammil, the editor of Zahira OBA and a founding member of the Serendib Educational Foundation (SEF), a Smart Board was graciously donated. The inaugural ceremony unfolded on Friday, the 15th of December, 2023, under the auspices of SEF President Fazl Amanullah at Al Ashraff Maha Vidayala.

Navigating financial challenges, many parents find it challenging to equip the school with a Smart Board—a vital instrument for enhancing students’ computer skills and overall proficiency

SEF, with a mission to elevate the quality of technical education, particularly in the IT field, has already extended its support to remote schools such as Bakinagahawela MMV in Medagama, Moneragala, and Nachiaduwa MMV in Anuradhapura, along with Meelad MMV in Dehiwela.

Addressing the audience during the Smart Board class opening ceremony, Fazl Amanullah emphasized the significance of the English language and IT, urging students to nurture a passion for learning.

Al Ashraff Maha Vidayala was established in 1920 at Mabole with the aim of providing a solid education to underprivileged children, fostering a culture of knowledge-seeking.

Currently, it caters to over 1200 students studying in both Tamil and Sinhala up to O/L & A/L, with a teaching staff of 50. The school also provides education in ICT subjects from Grade I to 13 and has achieved a commendable pass rate, with 60% passing the O/L and 65% passing the A/L. The school excels in football.

The principal, M.R.M. Irshad (Naleemi), also expressed gratitude to SEF for providing the Smart Board. Notably, Al Ashraff Maha Vidayala old boys’ union and school development members were present to witness this milestone in the school’s journey.
