Second group of Umrah pilgrims stranded in Madinah as Muslim department in deep slumber

MADINAH : Another group of 27 Lankan Umrah pilgrims are currently stranded in Madinah without a return air passage to Colombo.

This is the second group of pilgrims duped by unauthorized Umrah agents.Last week another group of 42 Umrah pilgrims were stranded in Madinah because of rogue agents who had issued them dummy return air tickets.

Muslim affairs deputy minister , Muneer Mulaffer was not available for comment

The Muslim department for religious and cultural affairs which incorporates the Hajj Committee has not taken any action in this regard.

According. to a video report sent from Madinah , an elderly pilgrim from the group said that there are 10 women in the group from Sainthamaruthu and Eravur . The pilgrim claimed that they were brought by one Moulavi Ismail from Valachenai who had given them dummy return tickets . He said on Wednesday , November 26 that this was their fifth day in Madinah waiting for their departure flights to Colombo .

Moulavi Ismail has been giving them all excuses saying that the return flights to Colombo are full, the pilgrim said.
