School Rugby 2024 – Week 2 Review
Eight games in the Schools Rugby Season Division 1 Segment A concluded over the past weekend, featuring both thrilling encounters and some one-sided matches. The victorious teams included S. Thomas’ College, D.S. Senanayake College, St. Peter’s College, St. Joseph’s College, Wesley College, Dharmaraja College, Royal College, and Isipathana College.
S.Thomas’ College (24) vs ST.Anthony’s College (17) at Mount Lavinia
The Thomians asserted their dominance over the Kandy boys in Mount Lavinia, bouncing back from their initial loss to Trinity to secure a victory against the Antonians. S. Thomas’ College took an early lead and, despite a comeback effort from the Antonians, maintained their advantage. The final score was 24-17 in favor of S. Thomas’ College.
D.S.Senanayake College (14) vs Trinity College (10) at Havelock Park
D.S. Senanayake College made history at Havelock Park by defeating Trinity College for the first time ever. Trinity’s error-ridden performance allowed D.S. to capitalize, scoring two tries with successful conversions. In contrast, Trinity College was unable to convert their tries, leading to a landmark victory for D.S. Senanayake
St.Peter’s College (46) vs Kingswood College (3) at Nittawela Stadium
After a Scoring a century in the previous game the Peterites ran riots in kandy as they scored 46 against Kingswood with only 3 points conceded against them.
St.Joseph’s College (26) vs Zahira College (22) at Maradana
The most captivating game of the week took place in Maradana last Saturday, where the Josephians rose from the jaws of defeat to secure a victory in the final minutes. Zahira College’s performance was commendable throughout the game, making the Josephians’ comeback even more impressive.
Wesley College (70) vs Thurstan (3) College at Airforce Ground
Newcomers to A Division rugby, Thurstan College, faced another heavy defeat as Wesley College amassed a staggering 70 points against them.
Dharmaraja College (32) vs Sri Sumangala Kandy (12) at Kandy
In another clash between the Kandy boys, Sumangala initially put up a fight, but Dharmaraja persisted and secured a substantial lead by the end of the match
Royal College (25) vs Vidyartha (10) at Nittawela Stadium
Royal College triumphed in a muddy contest at Nittawela, overpowering Vidyartha and showcasing remarkable fitness and persistence throughout the game.
Isipathana College (19) vs Science College (9) at Airforce Ground
In an another error ridden game by both the teams Isipathana college prevailed the challenge by the Mount Lavinia boys and won the game comprehensively.
