Salley’s FR case postponed for June 14

COLOMBO: The Supreme Court postponed former governor Azath Salley’s funadamental rights case for June 14, since one of the judges, Justice Janak De Silva recused himself from the hearing on Tuesday, June 2.

Former Governor and National Unity Alliance Azath Salley who is currently warded in the hospital following a coronary angiogram last Wednesday.e

Due to ill-health,earlier, the court postponed the hearing for June 2 and instructed the CID to submit its report on its investigation on June 2.

Salley was arrested by the criminal investigation department on March,19, under the Prevention and Terrorism Act and was admitted to a hospital in Colombo due to ill-health.

His wife filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court challenging the arrest on April 6.

Salley was admitted to the hospital on complaints of a suspected heart attack.

A team of lawyers led by Faiz Mustapha PC, followed by Gowri Shanker Thavarasa, Rushdie Habib, Mathri Gunaratne, PC,N.M.Shaheed, Faizer Mustapha and Pulasthi Rupasinghe appeared for Salley on Wednesday.
