COLOMBO: The salaries of government servants will be increased with immediate effect by the relief-oriented Budget to be presented shortly by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Prime Minister has taken this decision to financially strengthen the public servants to face the rising Cost of Living.
The previous Yahapalana Government increased the salaries of public servants by Rs.10,000 in 2015, and an increase of double that amount is expected through the upcoming Budget. The Prime Minister has given the above instructions to Officials working on the new Budget proposals.
The Prime Minister, when presenting the Budget, will request the private sector to increase the salaries of private sector employees parallel to the increase of the public servants’ salaries.
