COLOMBO — The Russia Day celebrations were held at the ITC Ratnadipa on Wednesday June 10 under the patronage of Levan Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of the Russian Federation and his wife Madam .Anait.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Dzhagaryan praised Sri Lankan tea as one of the finest in the world. He also highlighted the numerous scholarship opportunities provided by the Russian Embassy for Sri Lankan students and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Russia.
Dr. Upali Pannilage, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony commenced with a welcome ballet performance by students of the Russian School of Ballet and Dancing. Students from the Russian House also presented a variety of cultural performances during the celebrations.
During the event, attention was drawn to an environmental award that recognizes outstanding achievements in environmental protection, environmental safety, and other initiatives promoting sustainable development in the 21st century.
Among those present were Maria Popova, Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, Leader if the House Bimal Rathnayake, officials of the Russian Embassy and Russian House, members of the tri-forces, and other distinguished guests.
