Colombo – Royal College decided to declare their first innings at the overnight score of 326 for eight in the 144th Inter-School Big Match against the traditional rivals S. Thomas’ College at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place on Friday.
The two tailenders Sanvidu Senarathaarachchi (8) and Nethwin Dharmaratne (00) were set to resume the innings on the second day but instead Skipper Dasis Manchanayake closed the innings after Royal had faced a total of 74 overs on the opening day.
Manchanayake, himself was responsible for Royal’s recovery as he put on a record breaking fifth wicket partnership of 229 runs along with the debutant Ramiru Perera with both completing superb centuries.
The two fast bowlers Akash Fernando (4/55) and Kavindu Dais (3/58) were the most successful bowlers for S. Thomas’, who had won the toss and elected to field on a grass top at the SSC.
Senadhi Bulankulama and Thisen Ehaliyagoda opened the batting for S. Thomas’ while Ranuka Malawiarachchi and Bulan Weerathunga shared the newball for Royal.
