COLOMBO: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s office has dispelled all rumors about an alleged resignation of Mahinda Rakapaksa from his post of prime minister.
The social websites and sources said that at a special Cabinet meeting held in the evening on Friday, May 6, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has requested the premier to step down because of the current crisis in the country.
He has told his fellow ministers that he would make a special announcement on Monday, May 9.
Reacting to the news, Rohan Welliwita, media secretary at Prime Minister’s office,said there is no truth in social media reports which claimed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has already resigned.
