Religious institutions set to offer special prayers for those who died, survived in the recent cyclone which killed 625 people

COLOMBO – The Ministry of Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs has advised the religious departments to conduct special religious events through the four religious departments for the people who have died and are affected by the current adverse weather and natural disasters in the country .

Accordingly, the main event of the Islamic religious event, Dua prayer and sermon have been arranged to be held at the Wellawatte Jumma Mosque on December 9th at 3.45 pm.

Special dua prayers will be offered in all mosques after Maghrib or Isha prayers on the specified day (09.11.2025) for the deceased and affected people according to a directive from M.S.M.Nawas, Director of Department of Muslim Religious Affairs.

Special programmes include, Buddhist Religious Ceremony at Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple, Hindu Religious Ceremony at Bambalapitiya Kadireshan Kovil, Christian Religious Ceremony at Borella All Saints Church and Catholic Religious Ceremony at Grandpass St. Joseph Church.
