COLOMBO –  On behalf of 6,000 Sri Lankans graduated from foreign universities,a mass demonstration in front of  Colombo 7 Public Administration Ministry on Monday December 13 wa staged demanding their rightful jobs in the public sector.

The secretary of the Foreign Graduates Association, F.G Niksan told Colombo Times during demonstration that it is unfair for the government to ignore the foreign graduates for the government appointments recently. “ The government has appointed more than 40,000 graduates who had passed through the Sri Lanka-based universities but it has not recruited a single graduate who had graduated from a foreign university.” Niksan said, recalling that the original call for the jobs specifically said that those graduates from universities that are recognized by the University Grants Commission,(UGC). Almost all the 6,000 jobless graduates are from UGC approved universities, the secretary stressed. “ We are Sri Lankans and we were educated at recognized universities and we have a rightful claim for the joibs in our motherland,” he further claimed.
