COLOMBO: Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Ranjan Ramanayake was granted a special presidential pardon on Friday,August 26.
Former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was convicted of contempt of court in January 2021 and was sentenced to a prison term of four years of rigorous imprisonment.
Actor-turned politician Ranjan apologized to the court for committing contempt of court.
In an affidavit to the court, he said his comments were untrue and withdrew them,he said comments.
Meanwhile, the President’s Secretary said he has signed a document for a conditional presidential pardon for former MP Ramanayake with the approval of the President.
The former MP has been warned not to make any statements insulting the judiciary in the future as a condition of his pardon.
