COLOMBO; The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, over allegations of using Rs. 16.6 million in public funds for a private overseas trip, is scheduled to be taken up again tomorrow (28).
Former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake has now also been named as a suspect in the case.
Former President Wickremesinghe, who faces accusations of misusing public money for a personal foreign visit, is currently out on bail.
According to police, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already carried out an extensive investigation into the matter.
As part of these inquiries, several officers travelled to the United Kingdom to record statements from multiple parties connected to the incident.
In relation to these allegations, former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake has officially been named as a suspect, and the Attorney General has instructed the CID to produce him before court.
The CID has begun efforts to arrest the former secretary based on these instructions.
However, police stated that the suspect is not currently at his residence, and that his mobile phone has also been switched off.
