Ramadan in Sri Lanka begins on Friday

COLOMBO: Muslims in Sri Lanka will begin fasting during the holy month of Ramadan from Friday, March 24.

The Crescent Committee headed By moulavi M.B M Hisham held a meeting at the the colombo Grand Mosque on Wednesday evening to determine the commencement of the holy month.

The director of Muslim religious and cultural affairs Faizal Abdeen told Colombo Times that the Committee noted that the Ramadan crescent was not sited on Wednesday. Therefore, he added that Ramadan will begin on Friday.

The other members who attended the meeting included president of the Grand Mosque Taufiq Zubyr and president of All Ceylon Jamiathul Ulamah As Sheikh Rizwie Mufthi.photos by A S M JAVID
