MOHAMMED WAFEER
DOHA : The State of Qatar, being one of the smallest nations in its geographical size and space, it has been in the center of gravity for many aspects in the international arena. Qatar secured the number one to achieve the highest per capita income in the year 2012, by means of its constant and tireless efforts in to global business investments while making it a huge business hub for many overseas giants to invest locally.
Winning the 2022 FIFA bid and becoming the hosting nation, made Qatar still a destination which has been spotlighted and drawn the attention of the highly developed nations of the world and Qatar became an important and unavoidable one by any, developed country.
Qatar has always been contributing to the world peace and universal brotherhood by various activities such as extending huge financial and non financial supports to the poor and underprivileged countries which are struggling to get away from issues of health, poverty, education, internal political and ethnic unrest and such other relevant issues. Specially Qatar has been giving room, by mediating and becoming the host for many countries which are facing regional issues for decades, to discuss and find amicable solutions.
Today’s world has become a global village where the strongest or big shots (the regional superpowers of the globe) always endeavor to exercise an upper hand upon the others by various agendas whether it be supporting financially or by some other means, interfering into domestic affairs of others. Smallest ones have always been the scape goats in this struggle for power balance between the giants. Amazingly, Qatar has been maintaining it’s neutral stance in every moves, without compromising its the dignity and integrity.
Qatar is one of the leading destinations in the world for a very peaceful, safe and sound life which rarely happens to be in today’s world of full of crimes and misdemeanors. In a place where a mix of multi, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, religious people live, you cannot anticipate such a peaceful and dearly cheerful life. But surprisingly you would enjoy it here in Doha-Qatar. Government’s treatment of the people of its own and the expatriates have always been tremendous, in application or implementation of law and order, equally and without any sort of discrimination.
The unparalleled employment opportunities offered by the Qatar government for decades to global workforce, has made it, as the second home for tens of thousands of expatriate workers who live peacefully with their families or without, for several years.
Lastly, Qatar has won the bid to host the Asian Games 2030 also and it is another opportunity, soon after the FIFA 2022, to strengthen its paths in the region.
While sending my heartfelt national day wishes to the Emir of Qatar and its people, I invite all our Sri Lankan brothers to extend every possible support by them for further growth and development of Qatar, into the future.
