KALUTARA
Qatar Charity inaugurated a newly constructed three-storey Science Laboratory
Building at Kalutara Muslim Central College in Sri Lanka. on Sunday 2nd August ,marking a major investment in education and scientific learning.
The project, valued at approximately LKR 83 million, aims to enhance science education and provide modern learning opportunities to more than 1,500 students studying in Sinhala, Tamil, and English media. The facility was officially opened by . Hanif Yusoof, Governor of the Western Province, and Mr. Khalil Al Mahmoud, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sri Lanka. The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including
Mr. Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, Country Director of Qatar Charity Sri Lanka, Member of Parliament . Nandana Pathmakumara, former Minister Mr. Ali Sabry, school principal Mr. Nafras Nilar, teachers, students, and community leaders.
The newly built science complex includes four fully equipped laboratories dedicated to Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and General Science. These laboratories are furnished with modern equipment, learning resources, and safety facilities to support practical
scientific education. In addition, the building contains four spacious classrooms and advanced digital display systems to facilitate interactive teaching and learning. A landscaped front garden further enhances the educational environment and contributes
to the overall appeal of the school campus. Advancing Quality Education Qatar Charity reaffirmed its commitment to education as a cornerstone of sustainable development and community empowerment. Speaking at the inauguration, CountryDirector Mahmoud Abu Khalifa emphasized that education remains a top priority globally and in Sri Lanka. He noted that investing in educational infrastructure delivers
lasting social and economic benefits by equipping future generations with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to contribute to national development and long-term progress. Mr. Abu Khalifa also highlighted that this project forms part of a broader education
development initiative undertaken by Qatar Charity across Sri Lanka.
The organization has previously supported the construction of educational facilities in districts such asTrincomalee and Ampara, demonstrating its commitment to expanding access to quality education in different regions of the country. He expressed confidence that the new
science laboratories would encourage students to pursue careers in science,
technology, engineering, medicine, and research.
A Transformational Impact on Students The new science laboratory complex is expected to significantly enhance learning
opportunities for students by providing access to modern facilities for practical experiments, investigations, and hands-on scientific learning. These experiences will deepen students’ understanding of scientific concepts while improving academic performance and fostering critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation.Digital classroom technology will further enrich teaching through multimedia and
interactive learning methods. The facility is also expected to increase student interest and confidence in science subjects, improve examination readiness, and promote collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds, strengthening social cohesion
within the school community.Commitment to Sustainability and Long-Term Development Speaking at the event, Mr. Khalil Al Mahmoud described education as the foundation of national progress and characterized the project as an investment in future generations.
He encouraged students to fully utilize the new facilities, praised Qatar Charity’s contributions, and reaffirmed the strong partnership between Qatar and Sri Lanka in education, human development, and prosperity.Appreciation from Provincial and National Leaders
