Prominent social worker from Buttala dies in road accident in Mahiyangana

COLOMBO : Prominent social worker and district director of the YMMA for the Moneragala district Moulavi M. Amanullah died in Mahiyangana in a road accident on Tuesday and his funeral took place in his hometown of Buttala at midnight on Wednesday, June 22.

After a meeting of the All-Ceylon Jamiyyahtul UIama in Kandy, Amanullah was travelling home with his son Hanaam in his mobike when the accident occurred in Mahiyangana. His son is still in a coma stage at the hospital in Mahiyangana.

The National President of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference, Saheed M. Rismy  in his message of condolence, on behalf of the Conference, stated that the demise of Amanullah is a great loss to the YMMA and the Muslim Community.

He further states that the deceased was one of those rare personages who sacrificed his personal interests to serve the better interests of the community.

“His contribution to the YMMA as the District Director for Monaragala and Hambanthota, as the President of the All Ceylon Jamiathul Ulama for Monaragala and the President of the Ahadiya Federation Monaragala are most praiseworthy. He also played an important role in the coexisting between the communities and has been praised by the Sinhala community as well.”

“An exemplary gentleman who strived hard for the revival of all the communities during his period from 2020-2022 as the District Director of the YMMA Conference.”

He concluded his statement by stating that, Moulavi Amanullah bade farewell to this world today. His demise has left a great void in the Muslim community which would be hard to fill.
