COLOMBO — The most anticipated Sri Lanka 2026 – the Gem and Jewellery Exhibition was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, on Wednesday, January 7, at the Shangri-La Hotel ,Colombo. It will continue till 9th Friday January.
Gem Sri Lanka 2026, the country’s largest and premier international Gem and Jewellery exhibition organized by the Ceylon Gem and Jewellery Traders Association which is the largest trade body in the country, was ceremonially inaugurated marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s journey to reinforce its position as a global hub for Gems and Jewellery.
The grand opening ceremony was graced by Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister as chief guest, alongside Sunil Handunneththi, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rizvie Salih, Members of Parliament, senior government officials, ambassadors, industry leaders, and international delegates.
The chief guest Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, siad in her speech that the major highlight of the ceremony was the official launch of the Gem Sri Lanka publication, a historic volume reflecting the legacy, craftsmanship, and global stature of Sri Lanka’s Gem industry.
Following the opening, Prime Minister Amarasuriya visited the exhibition stalls and engaged in discussions with industry stakeholders and gem and jewellry manufacturers.
The opening ceremony concluded with a walk through the exhibition by the Prime Minister while engaging with the world Class Exhibitors of Gem Sri Lanka. This year’s exhibition features 103 booths and has attracted a significant number of both local and international buyers, highlighting the event.
Gem Sri Lanka 2026 continues over the coming days under its compelling theme “The Source, Production and Selection,” representing the complete journey of Sri Lanka’s world-renowned Gem industry which is the core strength of the exhibitors of Gem Sri Lanka who are masters of presenting Colored Gemstones to the world class standards. This year’s exhibition hosts the largest ever contingent of international buyers, with leading buyers and investors from around the world currently in attendance. Together, they reaffirm Sri Lanka’s enduring reputation as the true Island of Gems and a trusted global destination for exceptional Gemstones.
