President vows to proceed with the proposed 22nd Amendment once the supreme court gives the greelight

COLOMBO : President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has vowed that the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution will not be reversed under any circumstances, stressing that the government will proceed with the amendment once a Supreme Court determination is received.

Addressing a public event in Bulathsinhala Sunday, Sept. (6), President Dissanayake said a decision on petitions filed before the Supreme Court challenging the proposed amendment is expected shortly.

He said the amendment would be presented to Parliament and passed soon after the court delivers its determination.

The President further said the present government would not retreat from decisions taken in the interests of the people, despite opposition to the proposed legal and constitutional reforms.

He also stressed the need to take action against those responsible for corruption, saying such measures were necessary to dismantle what he described as a corrupt state system.
