COLOMBO : International Tourism Leaders’ Summit (ITLS) was held on Thursday, Oct. (02) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The summit marked the conclusion of a series of events held throughout September in line with World Tourism Day, including school competitions, research forums, and industry expos.
It brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, tourism stakeholders, and international scholars.
Organized with the guidance of the Ministry of Tourism, the event was jointly conducted by the University of Colombo’s Alumni Association of Tourism Economics and Hospitality Management (AATEHM), its Sustainable Tourism Unit, the Department of Economics, and key industry bodies including SLTDA, SLCB, SLAITO, and SLITHM.
Highlights included the launch of the “Ruhunu Ring” website connecting the Southern, Uva, and Eastern provinces, and the presentation of “Vision2Voice” magazine and top research papers on tourism to the President. Awards were also presented to school tourism club winners and industry veterans.
Minister of Tourism Vijitha Herath emphasized the government’s commitment to building a quality-driven tourism industry through innovation and youth participation, while highlighting Sri Lanka’s unique hospitality as a key asset to boost economic growth.: The Morning
