Premier Rajapaksa to propose constitutional amendments to regain sovereignty of parliament

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has expressed his proposed actions on Monday, April 18, for new constitutional amendments in response to the people’s wishes.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office noted that PM Rajapaksa has directed his attention towards calls from various factions for the creation of a government that is accountable to the people.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa plans to propose to the cabinet on a constitutional amendment that would include the Executive, Legislature, and the Judiciary.

The statement noted that Premier Rajapaksa expects the proposed amended constitution be instrumental in achieving the aspirations of the people.
