Plane carrying 181 pax crashes in S.Korea

SEOUL : A plane which was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members drove off the runway and crashed at the Muan International Airport in South Korea, killing at least 28 people, BBC reported citing Yonhap news agency.

The accident happened around 9 am (local time) when the Jeju Air flight was landing at the Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province, which is about 288 kilometers away from the capital Seoul, the officials said.

The Jeju Air plane was reportedly returning from Thailand and the accident took place while landing. A Muan airport official said that the airport is handling the emergency situation.

The fire authorities have reportedly said that they have put out a fire at an early stage at the Muan International Airport in South Korea. A CNN report cited the fire department stating that the accident was caused due to a landing gear malfunction.

Photos shared by the local media showed a plume of smoke coming out of the plane. According to Reuters, two people were found to be alive as the rescue mission was ongoing at the Muan airport.The Hindu
