Peter Hill inducted into the Sri Lanka Aviation Hall of Fame

COLOMBO ; . Peter Murray Hill, – Vice President, Fits Aviation, former CEO of Sri Lankan airlines, former CEO of Oman air , has the distinct honour of getting inducted into the Sri Lanka Aviation Hall of Fame for 2024, in recognition of his unique and indelible contribution to the aviation industry in Sri Lanka.

He was born on the day 19th April 1945 in a place called Tounton, Somerset, England, he is British by birth but since he had the love for Sri Lanka, and wanted to settle down, married a srilankan named Janaki and they are blessed with a beautiful daughter of 16-year-old – Anupama

Hill is a seasoned, international airline professional with over 50 years of experience in the industry. A key member of a team which  launched the most famous airline in the world, Emirates and fly Dubai, and most importantly took over the challenge of the loss making Air Lanka to make it a self-sufficient and profitable airline where the burden of the Sri Lanka treasury was completely taken out. He has to take a some bold decision in shaping up the task 

His experience was

Started with the most famous british airline BOAC/British Airways as a commercial trainee in 1961, and posted to Nassau, in Bahamas in 1970, 

In 1972 posted to kampala in uganda has to work under the most infamous regime under president Idi Amin

From February 1974 to July 1978, worked as reservation superintendent for Gulf Air in Bahrain

From july 1978 to November 1984 worked as commercial operation manager for the then famous dnata in dubai uae

From November 1984 to July 1996 holding various positions in the Emirates airlines

From July 1996 to March 1998, joined another business venture in london, while successfully progressing was invited by the former team to take over a challenging venture.

From 1998 until the term was over, took over the challenging position of the loss making airline We mirlanka and as the ceo

Bold and challenging decision taken were

Develop and implement a 5 year business plan

Rebranding airline name to srilankan airline

Introuding the state of the art fleet of airbus a300-200

Restructuring and expanding the route network group profitable airline without a burden to the government of sirlanka or the emirrates the business

Succesfull in managing the airline the aftermath of the worlds most trebile aviatoin tradegy by the ltte in july 2001 which destroyed half of the fleet of SriLaqqnkan airlines
