COLOMBO – On an initiative made by the Colombo Times, Pakistan High Commission in Colombo distributed dry rations to the deserving people in Polwatte ,Wellampitiya on Wednesday ,Nov 29.
Pakistan High Commissioner Retd. Major General Umar Farooq Burki distributed the rations among the residents of the Polwatte area at an event held under the chairmanship of the Chief Editor of Colombo Times , Mohammed Rasooldeen.
President of the Young Women’s Association Fawaza Thaha delivered the welcome address while the opening remarks were made by Rasooldeen.
Rasooldeen said the project of distribution of dry rations to the poor comes under the Community Social Responsibility Program of the Colombo Times which is interested in serving the less fortunate in the country. Last month , he said , Colombo Times distributed among inmates of an orphanage in Colombo .
High Commissioner Burki said that his mission in keen on helping the deserving people and want to strengthen people to people contact between the people of Pakistan and Sri Lanka .
Burki said Pakistan and Sri Lanka has been maintaining bilateral relations during good and bad times and assured that Pakistan would continue to go forward with Sri Lanka in its progressive march.
