Pakistan distributes dry rations, computers,sewing machines to the needy in the hill capital of Kandy

KANDY: Pakistan High Commissioner Maj Gen (Retd) Umar Farook Burki and the Hon Consul Gen For Pakistan in Kandy Afzal Marikar participated in a ceremony at Kongahamulla Kipalaraamaya temple at Palapathwela Matale.

The chief incumbent warmly welcomed them and thanked the High Commissioner and the people of Pakistan for donating computers for the school and setting up of IT lab for the students of the village and also donation of sewing machines to set up training Center to empower women in the village.

The principal of the Kawudupella Maha Vidyalaya was also given a gift of a computer and sports equipment of football and cricket gear.

The chief incumbent also thanked the people of Pakistan, a friendly country, for always supporting Sri Lanka In times of need.

He also thanked Afzal Marikar for building and gifting an Awaasagey (Rest room for monks) which was built for the residence of the Priest of the temple. He said it was a historic moment where an High Commissioner of a foreign county was able open this building which was gifted to them-a historic occasion which cannot be forgotten.

The envoy said that he was delighted to visit this rural village and open this building and was very much touched by the warmth and gratitude expressed by the community and the Chief incumbent of the Kongahamulla Kapilaramaya temple  and said the two countries had historicdatingateing thousands of years.

He also mentioned about the cordial relationship between the security forces of Pakistan and Sri Lanka but they thought that at time of such an economic crisis they needed to give required dry rations to the needy persons of this village and distributed dry ration food packs.
