COLOMBO : Former Governor of the Western Province and National Unity Alliance Leader Azath Salley has been arrested by the CID over a speech made by him.
Salley recently made a controversial statement regarding the law of the country which triggered several complaints to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
“Attorney General has advised the DIG CID that credible information is disclosed of offences committed under the Penal Code , PTA & the ICCPR Act by Asath Sally former Governor of the Western Province by a Speech made by him on 10.03.2021” AGs department spokeswoman said.
On Monday, special five-member CID team was appointed under an Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP to inquire into his matter .
