New rule on wearing face masks in public
COLOMBO : Sri Lanka’s Health Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana says that wearing face masks in public will not be compulsory except during public transport and indoor functions, with effect from Monday ,April 18.
Lankan Rupee depreciates against US dollar
Several licensed commercial banks in Sri Lanka have declared their selling rate of US dollar at Rs. 340 on Monday April 18.
The selling rate of US dollar per Sri Lankan Rupee according to the daily exchange rates of several licensed commercial banks is as follows:
BOC – Rs 340.00
People’s Bank – Rs 329.99
Sampath Bank – Rs 340.00
HNB – Rs 340.00
NDB – Rs 335.00
Amana Bank – Rs 340.00
Meanwhile the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has also announced official US Dollar rates for today.
Buying Rate – Rs. 322.72
Selling Rate – Rs. 334.99
In the wake of the Central Bank’s decision to float the currency, the buying and selling rates of the USD have been fluctuating daily.
Police complain court the public protest at Galle Face Green is hindrance to traffic
COLOMBO : The Fort Police on Monday (18) informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that it would inform the court if the peace is disrupted during protests at Galle Face demanding the resignation of the President and the government.
The submission was made in a report to Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwela by Sri Lanka Police.
The Fort Police has informed court that the large crowds gathering at Galle Face has affected the movement of vehicles along that road.
However, Att.-at-Law Gunarathne Wanninayake commenting to the media noted that these are attempts being made to remove protesters from Galle Face area by obtaining a court order.
