New officials picked at the 29th AGM of Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council

COLOMBO – The 29th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was held at the Union Ballroom, Hilton Residence, Colombo on Friday Aug. 25 with the High Commissioner of Malaysia in Sri Lanka Badli Hisham Adam gracing the occasion as the chief guest.

The SLMBC elected a new Committee for the year 2023/2024, with M.H.K.M. Hameez ( Spillburg Holdings Put Ltd ) elected as President.

Hameez said,  Land and Localize are important pillars of tourism. Further, these elements will pave the way for greater economic and political ties between the two countries. For Sri Lankans Malaysia is one of the top destinations for travel, holiday, business and even a second home. Further, thousands of students from Sri Lanka are studying in KL and other parts.  At times, business council was notified by some of these traveller’s having hiccups in obtaining visas. Saving our skins, High Commission officials were very helpful at all such instances when ever SLMBC intervened for visas issues.

“ With these developments, I’m very hopeful, more Sri Lankans will now start travelling to Malaysia and also actively get involved with more business activities.”

Further he said that Port city development is another flagship project and there are many development projects opportunities for Malaysian developers. Further the government has also announced attractive tax holiday packages for potential investors.

The Council also elected Sajith Amarasekera ( Acom Aviation PL) and  Marshad Barry ( Amana Bank PLC ) as Vice Presidents and Khalid M. Farook (ILham Inspiration Sri Lanka ) will serve as the Immediate Past President.

The Committee Members  Wathsala Wijesinghe (Intentional Scholar Educational Service PL),  Kushan Attapatu (Dialog Axista PLC),  Gayan Maddumarachchi (MAC Holdings PL) , G.A.D.  Anthony Tissa Ganlath (Timber and Transport Services)  Dhashma Karunaratne (Aitken Spence Shipping Ltd) and  Hsin Haw Li (Public Bank Berhad )
