NEGOMBO : The Negombo Municipal Council launched an anti-dengue campaign under the patronage of its Mayor Dayan Lansa on Thursday, June 17.
Deputy Mayor, M.A.Z. Farees, Municipal Commissioner Ruwanthi Fernando and Medical Officer Dr. Sameera Abeysinghe were present at the event.
“ We have started the awareness campaign from the dengue prone area of Periyamulla during this period which is common during this season . Our health workers will come to your homes and advise you on dengue. Clean your house and environment and dispose unwanted items to the garbage,” Lansa said.
Turning to the Municipal employees, the mayor said: “ You must act responsibly to protect the dignity of the municipality. The health department will test for dengue mosquitoes. They will advise you if such pests are found. He said the case would be pursued if it persists .”
The health department went door-to-door and carried out surveillance operations, cleaning both sides of the road and drains and spraying disinfectant where needed.
