Nauzer Fowzie builds a Rs 100 million school building at Khairiya Girls’ College with the help of Saeeda Foundation

COLOMBO — On an initiative made by former provincial councilor Nauzer Fowzie, Dubai-based Saeeda Foundation laid the foundation for  a four-storied building with 16  classrooms at a cost of Rs 100 million at Khairiya Girls College, Dematagoda. Colombo on Sunday March 17.

The donation of Rs 100 million was presented by Former Provincial Councilor Nauzer Fowzie to the school principal Nazeera Hassanar.

The foundation ceremony was held at the Khiriya Girls College primary Section at Kuppiyawatte under the patronage of Principal of the College Mrs. Nazeera Hassanar.Member of Parliament A.H.M. Fowze was present as chief guest and unveiled a  plaque to mark the  foundation for a new school building which would benefit some 700 primary students.

All Ceylon Jamiyathul Ulama President Ash Sheik M.I.M. Rizvi Mufthi conducted special prayers at this ceremony. Members of Parliament Mano Ganeshan, Rishad Bathiudeen, Former Member of Parliament Thilanga Sumathipala, former Governor of Western Province Azath Salley, Deputy Mayor of Colombo M.T.M. Iqbal, Colombo Zonal Education Director P.R. Devabandu, The Traveller Global Chairman Rizmi Reyal, Ash Sheik Noorullah, Deputy Principal, Vice Principals, teachers, parents, students and members of the School Development Committee were present.  

Late last year, Nauzer Fowzie selected deserving  Tamil and Sinhalese schools to build  new classrooms and renovate their school buildings.

The following schools were  picked for the programme:  Kalaimagal Tamil Vidyalaya,Sirimavo Bandaranayake Mw, Colombo 13 , St. Anthony’s Tamil Vidyalayam, Hemamali Balika Vidyalaya, Mahabodhi College and St. Anthony’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya,

 Principal Nazeera Assanar said it’s a dream became reality with the magnanimity of Fowzie who came to build these 16 classrooms to accommodate  700 children in the primary school.”Educating a girl is like educating the community”. We, at Khairiya Girls’ College have increased the learning opportunities of Muslim girls with Allah SWTs grace, and the continuous support of generous donors.

Khairiya Girls’ College is a well-established Muslim girls school in Colombo, providing learning opportunities to a student population of more than 2700.

The school operates in three locations, two at 166, Dematagoda Road, Colombo and the primary section at No. 237, Sri Dhamma Mawatha, Colombo 10. Pix by Mohammed Saleem
