COLOMBO : The 42nd National Milad-un-Nabi celebration will be held on August 26 at 3.00 p.m. at Al-Hilal College, Periyamulla, Negombo, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Muneer Mulaffer said.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information today (19), the Deputy Minister said the celebration will be held under the theme “Coexistence, Brotherhood and Unity”, with a series of programmes aimed at promoting religious values and strengthening social harmony.
A blood donation campaign will be held at Al-Falah College, Negombo, on August 22, followed by a tree-planting programme on August 23. A special “Visit My Mosque” programme will be held on August 24 to provide an opportunity to learn about the cultural environment surrounding mosques.
An exhibition based on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad will also be held at Al-Hilal College on August 24 and 25.
Meanwhile, financial assistance will be provided to develop the infrastructure of 12 mosques in the Gampaha District, with Rs. 1 million each allocated to eight major mosques and Rs. 500,000 each to four other mosques.
A publication highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the Muslim community in Gampaha District will also be launched, while a commemorative stamp featuring a historic mosque in the district is scheduled to be issued.
