Dear fellow Malaysians and friends in Sri Lanka,
Today marks the 69th National Day of Malaysia, a major milestone in our nation’s history. It is a time for reflection on our national identity, past achievements, and aspirations for the future. This year’s celebration carries the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati” (Malaysia MADANI: Prosperity Enjoyed), which underscores the Government of Malaysia’s continued commitment to ensuring that its policies and priorities are for the prosperity of its people.
The Malaysia MADANI concept, spearheaded by The Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, envisions a nation with an inclusive society based on six core values namely, Sustainability, Prosperity, Innovation, Respect, Trust and Compassion.
The MADANI concept is a unique embodiment of our aspiration to develop a nation that is not only economically robust but also socially cohesive, ethically grounded, and environmentally responsible. This vision guides us not only on domestic fronts but also in our engagement with the international community, including with our esteemed partner country, Sri Lanka.
As we celebrate this august day, we also acknowledge the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Our diplomatic ties, established in 1957, is equipped with a long history, close people-to-people connections, and growing economic cooperation.
Both countries share common perspectives on many global issues and challenges, providing a strong foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation and unlocking new avenues for growth. While trade and investment remain central to our partnership, there is significant potential for collaboration in areas such as education, tourism, agriculture and food security. Looking ahead, I envision a deeper and more strategic partnership between our two countries. Our cooperation is poised to evolve beyond traditional sectors, embracing emerging areas including climate resilience, digital transformation, Halal industry, and youth empowerment.
Sri Lanka and Malaysia are actively expanding bilateral ties through recent diplomatic engagements focusing on several key factors and through exchange of visits. Strengthening these bonds is vital to fostering mutual understanding, deepening bilateral ties, and building enduring goodwill between Malaysia and Sri Lanka. One key area of our cooperation is the tourism sector.
As part of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VMY2026), we warmly invite Sri Lankan travellers to discover the richness of Malaysia. From our vibrant multicultural cities and UNESCO World Heritage sites to pristine islands, cool highlands, rainforests, and unique wildlife, Malaysia offers experiences that appeal to every traveller. Our renowned hospitality, diverse cuisine, world-class shopping, family attractions, wellness and medical tourism, educational opportunities, and business events continue to make Malaysia a preferred destination in the region.
Aspirations for the Future
As we look to the future, Malaysia aspires to become a nation that is not only economically advanced, but also socially cohesive, environmentally responsible, and globally respected. We remain committed to working with partners like Sri Lanka in addressing global challenges and promoting global peace.
To all fellow Malaysians in Sri Lanka, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a joyous and meaningful National Day. Your unwavering commitment in representing Malaysia with pride, integrity, and resilience abroad is deeply appreciated. May we continue to uphold the values of Malaysia MADANI and serve as ambassadors of peace, unity, and excellence in all that we do. I encourage each of you to remain united, support one another, and carry the Malaysian spirit proudly wherever you may be.
