COLOMBO : On the momentous occasion of the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives, I convey my sincere greetings and best wishes to all Maldivians living in Sri Lanka.
The Maldives and Sri Lanka enjoy a distinctive and lasting partnership rooted in centuries of historical, cultural, and interpersonal ties. As we commemorate 61 years of established relations, the ties between our two nations have been fortified over generations through mutual maritime legacy, commerce, educational exchanges, tourism, and strong interpersonal connections.
Sri Lanka has always been a trusted neighbour and a valued partner of the Maldives. The warmth and hospitality extended to Maldivians living and studying in Sri Lanka reflect the special nature of our relationship. Our cooperation continues to expand across many areas, including trade, investment, health, education, fisheries, tourism and human resource development.
As we commemorate this significant national event, I wish to convey my heartfelt gratitude to the Government and the citizens of Sri Lanka for their enduring camaraderie, assistance, and benevolence towards the Maldives and its populace. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the authorities and institutions of Sri Lanka for their collaboration and support in enhancing the relationship between our two nations.
The High Commission of Maldives remains committed to further enhancing the friendship and partnership between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and to promoting greater understanding and cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
