COLOMBO – The 12 Sri Lankan fishermen detained by Myanmar for illegally entering its waters have been released from custody, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar announced on Monday.
The fishermen had left the Trincomalee fishing harbor in January 2021 and they were arrested by the Myanmar Navy in February for violating maritime boundaries. The fishermen were subsequently remanded by a Myanmar court.
The Embassy stated that the released fishermen are set to be repatriated to Sri Lanka.
