COLOMBO : The Captain of the fire-ravaged cargo vessel who was arrested on Monday, was released on Rs 2 million personal bail on the same day.
The Criminal Investigation Department arrested the Captain of the fire-ravaged vessel which caused a major maritime ecological disaster in the Sri Lankan oceans.
The CID arrested the captain, who is a Russian national since he was the sheet anchor of the 25 member crew, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The Sri Lankan navy rescued 25 members of the crew from the distressed vessel and currently they are under the care of the Lankan government. The Captain of the ‘X-Press Pearl’ cargo vessel was ordered to be released after being produced before the Colombo High Court on Monday June 14.
The court further extended the overseas travel ban imposed on the Captain of the ship.
