Muslim organizations condole death of Mangala Samaraweera

Message from ACJU

“ He was known as one who respected democratic values and as a moderate personality, who has contributed immensely to our country in the political arena. He was also known for his inclusivity and embraced all communities. He honoured the appeals of the minorities and was a voice for their rights.

It should be noted that he had expressed concern towards the matters related to the Muslim community, especially during the post Easter Attacks period when the entire Muslim community was undergoing several hardships, he supported the oppressed and stood against discrimination.

If such exemplary traits are adopted by all politicians, our country could be driven towards lasting prosperity.

The ACJU wishes to express its condolences on behalf of the Muslim community to his family, relatives, friends and all those who mourn his loss.

Message from ACYMMA

“ The National President and the Members of the Executive Committee of the All Ceylon Young Men’s Muslim Association Conference (ACYMMAC) wish to express our heartfelt condolences on the demise of Hon. Mangala Samaraweera to his family and loved ones.

The sudden demise of Hon. Mangala Samaraweera leaves a vacuum in the Sri Lankan political arena that may be difficult to fill. An honest Statesman, Hon. Samaraweera will be dearly missed by the citizens of this country, especially the people of Matara towards whose development he worked tirelessly.

Having served on the Cabinet of Ministers under different Heads of State, holding many different portfolios he has left an indelible mark on all institutions that came under him.

On a personal note, as the Minister of Posts during our Golden Jubilee, Hon. Mangala Samaraweera oversaw the release of a postage stamp to mark the occasion.

Outspoken and forthright, he championed the cause of coexistence, democracy and human rights. He leaves behind his own special style of advocacy and governance which he sincerely strove to inculcate in the younger generation.”
