
COLOMBO : In Continuation of support to the health sector in the Country, Muslim Aid, in partnership with UNHCR, delivered the ultrasound scanner to the De Soysa Maternity (Teaching) Hospital in Colombo on 30th January .p
The formal handing over of 10 million worth of ultrasound scanner, was attended by the hospital’s director, Dr. K.D. Pradeep Wijesinghe, Faizer Khan, the Country Director of Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, Dr. Rishad, a senior consultant, Yaseer -Programme Development Manager of Muslim Aid, Ikram – Procurement and logistic lead of Muslim Aid and other hospital officials were present on the occasion.
The director of the hospital was very grateful for the timely support provided by UNHCR and Muslim Aid. Additionally, he stated that this equipment could serve hundreds of pregnant mothers who are ailing from vulnerable communities, especially in surrounding areas in Colombo. Further said that, by using this equipment, they could detect any issues at the early stages in a magnitude way which will help to prevent any complication later on in the delivery process. Donating this equipment simultaneously improves health care for two lives at a time.
Dr. Rishad, the Senior Consultant of the hospital expressed gratitude for donating the most valuable medical equipment and highlighted the importance of the Ultrasound scanner in the early detection of complications through ultrasound imaging in ensuring safe pregnancies and deliveries and improving healthcare services, particularly for the expectant mothers as well as for the patients with complications transferred from other hospitals in different parts of the country for further treatment.
The Country Director of Muslim Aid Faiizer Khan said it is a privilege to support the hospitals with a facility like this, where hundreds of expectant mothers are being treated every day. The Country Director recalled that Muslim Aid with the funding support of UNHCR under the Refugee Care programme provided a set of 3 million worth of medical equipment to the hospital on 11th January 2024 attended by the Hospital Director, Senior Consultant, and UNHCR Representative. The Country Director reiterated the significance of the provided medical equipment in aiding accurate diagnoses and informed decision-making in maternal health care. Further, appreciate the commitment of hospital staff in utilizing the ultrasound scanner effectively for the betterment of maternal health care service in the hospital and the country.
A demonstration of the ultrasound scanner’s functionalities has been scheduled to be conducted by trained medical professionals to provide insights into the equipment’s capabilities and its potential impact on improving prenatal care within the hospital.
