MUMBAI : Sri Lankans in Mumbai and their families came together to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil
New Year on 18 April 2026 at the newly opened Sri Lankan restaurant in Bandra, ‘Lisa’s
Lanka’. The event was conceived and organized by the Mumbai-based Sri Lankan
community in consultation with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai.
Lanka-phile Chef Lisa Sadanah, proprietor of ‘Lisa’s Lanka’, who was brought up in Sri
Lanka and spent 20 years of her life there, offered a carefully curated menu to mark the
national festival, bringing out the unique flavour blends of the country’s cuisine from across
the island.
The community appreciated the leadership provided by the Consulate General in bringing
together the Sri Lankans in the region. This was the first event organized by them after a long
hiatus. They were joined in the celebrations by officials of the Consulate General and
SriLankan Airlines in Mumbai and their families.
Consul General Priyanga Wickramasinghe thanked the community members for the initiative
and dynamism, and expressed confidence that this endeavour would serve as a launchpad for
more events for community fellowship.
