COLOMBO : As we mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year with the sacred month of Muharram, I extend my heartfelt wishes for peace, reflection, and spiritual renewal to all our Muslim brothers and sisters in the Western Province and across Sri Lanka.
Muharram is a time of deep significance. It is a period that reminds us of the values of justice, sacrifice, patience, and unwavering faith as exemplified by the life of Imam Hussain (AS) and the events of Karbala. These timeless lessons inspire not only the Muslim community but all of humanity to uphold moral courage, compassion, and unity in the face of adversity.
At a time when our province and nation strive for reconciliation and progress, let us draw from the spirit of Muharram to foster greater understanding, respect, and harmony among our diverse communities. As Governor, I reaffirm my commitment to protecting the dignity and religious freedom of all faiths and promoting an inclusive society where mutual respect and coexistence thrive.
May this Muharram be a source of reflection and spiritual strength for all. May it inspire us to lead lives of integrity, service, and compassion.
Wassalam.
