COLOMBO : The award ceremony for the Ramadan Health Challenge, organized by MIRT, was held on Sunday (12) at the Oberon Building in Colombo 10. The event was conducted under the leadership of Consultant in Community Medicine, Dr. Irshad Mashood, alongside a Journal Club session focusing on the prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
The event was organized by MIRT (Multidisciplinary Institute for Research and Training), with the primary objective of strengthening research culture and recognizing individuals engaged in community-based health initiatives.
Experts from various fields, medical professionals, and students participated in the event, sharing their insights on research, education, and community development.
During the first session, Dr. Irshad Mashood presented his research paper, highlighting the importance and social relevance of NCD prevention strategies. This was followed by critical evaluations and discussions by Dr. Mizaya Cader (National Tuberculosis Control Programme, Ministry of Health), Dr. Zacky Haniffa, and Dr. M.G.M. Mafaz.
The keynote address, titled “Social Marketing and Community Mobilization,” was delivered by entrepreneur and mentor Ihsan Wahid.
In addition, winners of the “Ramadan Health Challenge,” a community-based health initiative, were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 50,000, and Rs. 30,000 along with certificates. Out of 400 participants, four individuals were selected and recognized, representing the areas of Kattankudy, Warakapola, Rajagiriya, and Kandy.
