COLOMBO : President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has received a letter from the Chief Prelates of the three main Buddhist chapters opposing the proposed constitutional amendment to extend the retirement age of judges, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said on Tuesday, August. (11).
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, Minister Jayatissa confirmed that the letter had been received by the President.
He said that following the concerns raised in the letter, he and the Minister of Justice met with the Chief Prelates and provided clarification on the proposed constitutional amendment.
Minister Jayatissa made the remarks in response to questions from journalists about whether the President had received the letter.
