Our history clearly exhibits that we although being a free nation, have lost our national sovereignty and freedom from time to timedue to been disrupted as a result of ignorance of power thirsty rulers. As an outcome of this we were confronted with enemy attacks and invasions from time to time and finally we were ruled by English colonial government for more than 15 decades for the last time. That led to significant deterioration of our national religious, social and cultural qualities. As a result of that, the unity, moral qualities as well as the prosperity and abundance drastically deteriorated.
Due to the sacrifices of laymen and clergy who struggled hard for saving the nation from this shrink, Sri Lanka was able to win independence on 04th February 1948.
Seventy – eight (78) years have passed from gaining the independance. It is apparent that many countries gained independence parallel to this periodhave achieved a tremendous growth and is enjoying the true independence with development. However, even today we are deprived of even the day today food rations needless to state of our harmony without national, religious, political and other disparities. This is a matter to be humiliated about as a nation.
The mission should be thoroughly kept in mind on this 78th independence celebrations that we should thoroughly take into account that our sole intention should be to create a dignified future for our nation’s children uplifting our peoplewho are devastated by natural calamities to economically, and spiritually strengthen them as an independent nation.
My blessings to our Sri Lankan people who are striving to uplift as an independent nation with novel expectations and ambitions after an unfortunate period are herewith conveyed wrapped with the blessings of the most Sacred Tooth Relic
