Message from the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama

COLOMBO: We are commemorating the 75th Independence Day of our motherland.

On this special occasion, we gratefully remember all the leaders who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the freedom of our motherland, Sri Lanka, regardless of caste, race or religion.

It is the moral duty of every individual to love and be loyal to the motherland. And it is the responsibility of every citizen of the nation to contribute towards its progress and development and ensure its security. These aspects are not only based on human nature but are also emphasized in religious teachings.

Our forefathers strived to acquire independence for our Motherland with the noble intention that every citizen should enjoy complete freedom economically, socially and politically and that everyone should live with dignity, honor and brotherhood.

Although we gained independence from colonial powers politically 75 years ago, we are still economically under-developed due to periodic challenges. The recent political and economic crises of our country have greatly affected our lives, but we pray that the political, economic and social conditions of the country will stabilize soon.

Let us work towards acquiring the perfect freedom which was intended by our forefathers devoid of evils such as, selfishness, vandalism or racism. And let us join hands and build our Nation as an exemplary model for peace and tranquility.

We pray that all citizens of our country able to enjoy their rights and freedom and while upholding peace and harmony.
