DHAKA :Today is 26th March, Independence and National Day of Bangladesh. This day is most glorious and unique in our national history. On this day in 1971, the people of Bangladesh from all walks of life rose in unity and initiated liberation war against the Pakistani occupation forces. After nine months of a heroic and bloody Liberation War, our long-cherished independence was finally achieved.
On this historic occasion, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all Bangladeshis living at home and abroad.
On this solemn day, I pay deep tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman who declared the independence of Bangladesh and was the pioneer of multi-party democracy in the country. I also remember with profound respect the millions of martyrs of the Liberation War, the valiant freedom fighters, and the countless mothers and sisters and the freedom-loving people of this country whose courage, sacrifice and unwavering determination made possible the independence of our beloved Bangladesh.
Following the landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections held in February 2026, the present government assumed office under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Since assuming office, the government has remained steadfast in undertaking various effective initiatives to uphold the spirit of independence and fulfil the aspirations of the people.
Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman introduced the principle of ‘Bangladesh First’ in the country’s foreign policy. Guided by this principle, he established friendly relations with neighbouring and other countries on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests. During her tenure in office, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia successfully pursued this foreign policy. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the present government continues to work steadfastly to safeguard Bangladesh’s national interests and uphold its dignity in the international arena, guided by the enduring principle of ‘’Bangladesh First’’.
On this auspicious occasion, I extend my sincere greetings to the Bangladeshi diaspora residing in different parts of the world who continue to contribute significantly to sustain our economy. I also convey my sincere appreciation to all members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our missions abroad for their dedicated efforts to safeguard our national interests and strengthen Bangladesh’s image on global stage.
Bangladesh Zindabad.
