COLOMBO: On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and on my own behalf, I would like to convey my sincere congratulations and best wishes to the government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The year 2023 is of great significance for both Sri Lanka and Türkiye. In addition to the 75th anniversary of the independence of Sri Lanka, this year also marks the centenary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye. It is also worth mentioning that Türkiye was one of the first nations to recognize the independence of Sri Lanka in 1948. Last but not least, 2023 also marks ten years since the establishment of the Turkish Embassy in Colombo.
As a close friend and a partner of this beautiful island nation, Türkiye looks forward to and is committed to enhancing cooperation for progress and prosperity in Sri Lanka’s journey towards the centennial. Therefore, on this historic day of this historic year, I sincerely believe that our cordial bilateral relations based on mutual respect, will continue to expand and develop in all areas in the years to come.
