COLOMBO: On this auspicious day of the 75th Anniversary of the Independence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I have the honour to extend my sincere congratulations and warmest wishes to the Honourable President and Sri Lankan citizens, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and people of Thailand on this joyous occasion.
The cement which bonds our friendship is not just the outcome of our sixty-eight years of formal diplomatic ties but it is also the mutual religious, social and cultural dynamics together with the common desire of both countries to move our active ties forward together. The third round of negotiations between Sri Lanka and Thailand on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which was held on 9 and 10th January this year in Colombo, with the participation of 26 official delegates from Thailand is one of the ideal examples which showcases the close collaboration between our two countries as a part of the present-day cooperation. This trade agreement will certainly advance Sri Lankan government’s agenda of expanding the market access for Sri Lankan exports under seven themes and will be aimed at accessing Sri Lankan exports to other ASEAN vital markets as well, through Thailand’s gateway. The proposed FTA will boost reciprocal investment to and from both countries.
I am confident that with our long – standing and close ties of friendship and cooperation, Thailand and Sri Lanka will be reinvigorated for many more mutual developments and flourish prosperity in the years ahead.
